"Run, Nigger, Run!"

Testimony of:

Fadumo Dayib

I came into this land as a refugee on year 1990 when there was no foreigners in Finland. It was an overnight Somali Invasion of Finland. Everyday I would hear racist slurs, I woke up to the "Perkele!" shouts. I drank my tea as a "mud face" and danced to beat of "fucking nigger" songs.

Little children pointed their fingers and shouted "look mom! there's a nigger!". Old grandmothers attacked me on swimming halls and tried to wash the nigger away from skin.

I converted from a dreaming individual into a sub-human: mud face, nigger, nagger, bitch and welfare scum.

On good days if I needed to work out, I got it free on the mornings as I had to run away from the racist skinheads. Those skinheads had decided that we must leave Finland and go back to Somalia. We had to be very careful where we could move because of the constant threat. I had to even use some shady tunnels in order to hide from the skinheads.

When we asked help from the police they just told us to keep on running. As running is something that we niggers can  and should do.

Rule of thumb: If you are black, stay away from racist Finland.

Finnish "nigger" candy.

New extreme anti-immigrant party started in Finland

The local Finns Party council group in Asikkala, southern Finland has sacked infamous MP James Hirvisaari from the position of first vice chair, marking the final step in his separation from the party.

Former Finns Party MP James Hirvisaari now speaks on behalf of the extreme nationalist group Change 2011 in the Finnish Parliament.

The local party group's move follows similar action taken by the party's national leadership.

Hirvisaari is known for hosting the Tampere extreme right figure Seppo Lehto at the parliament, taking a photo of his guest posing in a Nazi salute and posting it online.

The colourful politician has since joined the Change 2011 movement (Muutos 2011), an anti-immigrant and nationalist group.

Seppo wearing a blue shirt and doing the anti-immigrant hail with street patrol.

Somalis leaving Finland

Thousands of Somalis are leaving Finland. They don't feel that Finland is safe place for them and are heading back to Africa Somalia.

Somalia has suffered from a bloody civil war for tens of years now. Still most Somalis think that it is time to get back home. Back to Somalia where there is no danger of racism or cold weather and darkness.

"In Somalia I don't have to fear racism. My kids also love the warm weather here. They never liked the cold winter of Finland" - says Abdi, now back in Somalia.

Biaudet: Racism breaks down Finnish society

Minority Ombudsman Eva Biaudet says she wants discussions on racism in Finland to move beyond single incidents to focus on the bigger picture.

Biaudet was referring to the furore sparked by last Sunday’s piece in Helsingin Sanomat by Palestinian-born Finnish writer and politician Umayya Abu-Hanna, who said she had relocated to the Netherlands with her adopted South African daughter to escape Finland’s xenophobic climate.

Biaudet told Yle on Thursday that racist attacks against individuals reflect on all minority groups.
"It sends a message of insecurity—that society is not safe for minorities. Hate breeds more hate."

Biaudet pointed to studies that show that racism is more common in countries with relatively few immigrants—countries that have lived in relative isolation like Finland.

"Stereotypes flourish when there are fewer opportunities for contact with different types of people," she said.

Umayya Abu-Hanna left Finland

After 30 years of suffering from racism in Finland Umayya decided to leave Finland. She could not take it anymore and moved to Amsterdam.

Umayya has her roots in Palestine and moved into Finland in 80s. The land of the white pale skinned Finns.

Being dark skinned palestinian she was very different than the Finnish people. And the situation only got worse after she decided to adopt black african girl.

"Mommy, I hate my black skin."

Reema, adopted from South-Africa heard so much racism that she learned to hate her own skin.

The decision was easy. It was better to leave Finland and move to multi cultural Amsterdam.

"It is easy to blend in to here, as everyone is different here." - says Abu-Hanna, after living couple of weeks in Amsterdam. In Finland she was everyday just another "nigger".

Reema, Abu-Hannas daughter has learned to speak Dutch, but Abu-Hanna has decided to speak only English.

"I dont even know how to say "thank you" in Dutch. I just speak English. I don't give a shit."

In Amsterdam Umayya is no longer a "nigger" as she and her daughter was in Finland.
